It seems that everyone has chimed in on the Chris Brown and Rihanna saga over the past few weeks, from the tabloid shows exploiting the story to Ellen confronting Diddy (or Puff Daddy or whatever he's calling himself this week) about it to Tyra Banks (who of course found a way to make it about her) and even Oprah! Now, usually I like to keep my celebrity news separate from my hard hitting news, but I can see how this could be a legitimate story, not because of the celebrity factor, but because it is about domestic violence, something that effects us all. This week Bianca Harris, Cassidy Caukin, and LaTosha Ross got Auburn students' opinions on the issue.
Oprah devoted a full live show to the topic yesterday. It's something we all know already: domestic violence is never ok. Whether it is emotional, verbal, or physical abuse, it should not happen. But it does. And when it happens to someone close to us, we say it's just a one time thing. But, chances are, it's not. If it happens once, it will happen again. Ant guys are not the only abusers. This week, one of the "Real Housewives" of some city or another was arrested for assaulting her boyfriend! We need to take this opportunity to educate ourselves and everyone we know about the dangers of domestic violence.
If you are in an abusive relationship and need help or if you would just like to know more about domestic violence, you can visit the Safe Habor page on Auburn University's Web site.
